<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable manual type card reader equipped with two magnetic reading heads facing each other in a card insertion-through groove, and a magnetic reading head protection mechanism thereof. <P>SOLUTION: A card reader is equipped with two magnetic reading heads 9a and 9b facing each other in a card insertion-through groove 8. As a magnetic reading head protection mechanism, a notch 27 is formed on the bottom of the card insertion-through groove 8, a partition plate 28 is arranged freely insertably and extractably in the card insertion-through groove 8 through the notch 27, and a spiral spring 31 is engaged with the bottom of the partition plate 28 so as to energize the partition plate 28 to advance in the card insertion-through groove 8. When a card is not inserted through the card insertion-through groove 8, the partition plate 28 is energized by the spiral spring 31 to be projected into the card insertion-through groove 8 to be inserted between the two magnetic reading heads, thereby preventing a collision between the two magnetic reading heads. When the card is inserted through the card insertion-through groove 8, the card is pressed toward a lower part of the notch 27 while the lower edge of the card is brought into sliding contact with the notch 27. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
