The present invention obtains an engine starting device which enables the simplification of the control of the engagement of a pinion gear and a ring gear, cost reduction, and restarting while the ring gear is rotating. An engine starting device comprises a starter motor, a pinion part, and a push-out mechanism for moving a pinion gear of the pinion part to the position of engagement with a ring gear, and comprises an integral-type switch which actuates a motor energization switch by a plunger being drawn in earlier after the pinion gear has been pushed out by configuring switches for tuning on/off the operation of the push-out mechanism and an energization current for the starter motor by one plunger coil. When a restart request is made after an engine stop request has been made and the integral-type switch is brought into an on state, the operation timing of the push-out mechanism and the coil operation timing of the plunger coil are set such that the starter motor does not operate until the pinion gear is brought into contact with or engagement with the ring gear. |
