<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium silicide powder having a uniform particle shape and a method for producing the same, and to provide a sintered compact and a thermoelectric conversion element using the obtained magnesium silicide powder and methods for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The magnesium silicide powder (Mg<SB POS="POST">2</SB>Si) is represented by general formula (1) and has a particle diameter of 0.1-100 μm.
