<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a function to release a solar cell device which provides secure electrical disconnection and reduces electric current consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A junction box 1' of a solar cell device 27 having solar cells connected by strings comprises separate top and bottom parts mechanically connected with each other. First contact members C2 are disposed in one of the top and bottom parts, and interconnected second contact members S2 are disposed in the other of the top and bottom parts. Some of the first contact members are connected to the solar cells in the installed state and two of the first contact members are connected to a connecting cable of the solar cell device. In the installed state, the first and second contact members are connected in electrical contact with each other. The junction box has an actuator 17 and a control unit. The actuator is provided for releasing the mechanical connection between the top and bottom parts and for disconnecting the contact between the first and second contact members.
