<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically determine a vehicle rank, and to output traveling sound with less discomfort. <P>SOLUTION: A generation circuit 8 for generating traveling sound includes a signal processing circuit 320 and a determination logic circuit 30. A control signal of a fuel injection valve 305, that is, a fuel injection signal is input to the generation circuit 8. The determination logic circuit 30 determines the number of cylinders of an engine 2 based on the fuel injection signal. The determination logic circuit 30 also determines the displacement of the engine 2 based on the fuel injection signal. The generation circuit 8 receives a rotation speed signal from a rotation speed sensor 6 arranged in the engine 2 and a vehicle velocity signal from a vehicle velocity sensor 7 arranged in a vehicle. The determination logic circuit 30 determines a vehicle rank by integrating the number of cylinders, the rotation speed signal and the vehicle velocity signal. A synthesis circuit 12 synthesizes a sound signal for generating traveling sound in accordance with the determined vehicle rank.
