Provided is an endoscope which comprises: an input amount detection unit for detecting a bending operation as a bending operation input amount; a first bending drive mechanism for causing a first bending section to bend by an amount of bend corresponding to the bending operation input amount; a bend amount calculation unit for calculating the amount of bend of the first bending section; a second bending drive mechanism for causing a second bending section to bend; a drive unit for generating driving force which drives the second bending drive mechanism; a setting unit which has set therein a first threshold value that is stored in advance and is compared with the amount of bend of the first bending section; a determination unit for determining whether or not the amount of bend of the first bending section is larger than the first threshold value; and a control unit which, if it is determined that the first threshold value is smaller, continues to output to the drive unit a bending drive signal which drives the second bending drive mechanism and thereby causes the second bending section to bend in the same direction as that of the first bending section.
