This portable device is provided with: storage means which associates application identification information for identifying an application to be launched with movement information, which is a combination of an origin of movement and a destination of movement, in order to store the information; positional information acquisition means for repeatedly acquiring current positional information of a user; and control means which, on the basis of the history of the positional information acquired by the positional information acquisition means, calculates the direction of movement of the user, and on the basis of the calculated direction of movement and the current positional information of the user, selects any of the movement information items stored in the storage means in order to read out the application identification information corresponding to the selected movement information item from the storage means so as to launch the application corresponding to the application identification information which has been read out.
