The device has an output terminal (6) electrically connected to one of input terminals (7, 8) over wire-bound transmission links (2) according to a switching state of an electrical changeover switch (1). Switching units (2a, 2b) generate distinguishable signal sequences, and a processing unit (5) recognizes the distinguishable signal sequences at an output terminal line (4). The processing unit outputs an output signal based on a recognized switching status of the switch, where the signal sequences are uniquely assigned to the respective switching state of the changeover switch. An independent claim is also included for a method for secured detection and transferring of a switching status of an electrical changeover switch.
