An illumination device (10) of the present invention is provided with a planar light-guide plate (13) and LEDs (33a, 33b) positioned at the rear-surface side of the light-guide plate (13). Light emitted from the LEDs (33a, 33b) is incident on the light-guide plate (13), and the incident light is emitted from the front-surface side of the light-guide plate (13) while being totally reflected and guided within the light-guide plate (13). An optical coupling member (35) for coupling the light emitted from the LEDs (33a, 33b) in such a way that the light is incident on the light-guide plate (13) at an inclination is provided between the light-guide plate (13) and the LEDs (33a, 33b). The LEDs (33a, 33b) are positioned in such a way that light having a colour temperature of 2000 to 6000 K is emitted towards the optical coupling member (35) and the direction of the optical axis of the light emitted towards the optical coupling member (35) is orthogonal with respect to the light-guide plate (13).
