The method involves determining current or future state of electrical system in a vehicle. The suitable opportunity to regenerate a lead acid battery (4) is determined based on ahead-lying traveling route information (6,7) which is provided by a navigation system (5) and based on the determined condition of electrical system in the vehicle. The uninterrupted regeneration of the lead acid battery is enabled based on the determined suitable opportunity. An independent claim is included for control device for controlling regeneration of lead acid battery in motor vehicle.
