A method for producing a modified plant biomass, comprising: a first step of feeding a particulate plant biomass raw material to a first container; a second step of discharging air from the first container; a third step of feeding ammonia to the first container; a fourth step of transferring the plant biomass raw material into a second container; a fifth step of discharging ammonia that remains in the first container; a sixth step of modifying the plant biomass raw material in the second container; a seventh step of transferring the modified plant biomass into a third container; an eighth step of discharging ammonia from the third container; a ninth step of collecting the modified plant biomass; a tenth step of discharging air from the third container; and an eleventh step of collecting the discharged ammonia and re-using the ammonia.
