<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for a fundus photographing apparatus of a type of scanning the fundus in a slit shape and photographing it, the technique achieving elimination of the need of synchronous control of a slit plate as before and simplification of the apparatus configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The fundus photographing apparatus 1 includes an illumination optical system 10, a photographing optical system 30, a control part 50 and an image generation part 80. The illumination optical system 10 scans the fundus Ef of an eye E to be examined with slit light. The photographing optical system 30 includes an image sensor 34 provided with a light receiving surface 34a formed of two-dimensionally arranging photoelectric conversion elements Gij. The photographing optical system 30 guides the fundus reflected light of the slit light to the image sensor 34. The control part 50 successively operates a plurality of groups Gk of the photoelectric conversion elements 34ij corresponding to scanning of the slit light.
