A thermal flow rate sensor device with shield apparatus to restrict exposure of the heat transfer areas of the sensors to the flowing fluid in the conduit into which the sensors project. This exposure restriction enables the sensor device to accurately detect higher fluid flow rates than were previously possible with the same sensor elements.
