Disclosed is a black resin composition, with which a black matrix, which has high insulating characteristics even after high-temperature heat treatment, and which also has achromatic reflection color characteristics, can be easily formed. The black resin composition contains (A) a light blocking material, (B) an alkali-soluble resin, and (C) an organic solvent, and as the light blocking material (A), the composition contains (A-1) a carbon black, and (A-2) titanium nitride particles. The carbon black (A-1) is surface-treated with a sulfur-containing compound, and in the surface composition, the atomic ratio of carbon is 95 % or less, and that of sulfur is 0.5 % or more.
