The fabric has a flexible insect protection mesh (12) formed from leno threads (20), standing threads (18) and weft threads (16), which are connected with one another in a leno weave. The parallel weft threads extend in pairs as the leno and standing threads by leaving grid openings (24), where the leno and standing threads entangle a warp thread pair (22). Bending stiffness of the mesh in a weft direction is matched with bending stiffness of the weft threads in the warp direction. Thread cross sections of the leno and standing threads deviates less than 20 percent from each other.
