<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aluminum oxide sintered body which is uniform in the sintered body texture and excellent in processability and in which the original color of the sintered body is retained, and a method for manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The aluminum oxide sintered body comprises crystal grains and a grain boundary phase, wherein 0.08-0.30 mass% of titanium oxide is solid-solved in the crystal grains. Since the titanium oxide is solid-solved in the crystal lattice and grain growth is facilitated, the sintered body texture is made uniform and good processability is provided.
