The pump assembly has multiple fixed pumps (P1,P2,P3), which are driven by rotary variable drive (40). Each fixed pump has a working line (2,4,6), in which a switching valve (10,12,14) is arranged. A delivery volume flow of the assigned constant pumps is discharged to a tank (T) by the switching valve. The working line opens at a common high-pressure connection or in a common high-pressure line (8). The switching valve is switched based on threshold speed of the rotary variable drive. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for increasing a volume flow in a high pressure line of a pump assembly; and (2) a method of reducing a volume flow in the high pressure line of a pump assembly.
