An optical module provided with: a pivoting bail that is provided on the front surface of a case which is inserted into and removed from a cage; a sliding plate that slides toward the front and back of the case in conjunction with the pivoting of the bail; and engaging pieces that are provided on the sliding plate and engage freely with engaging pieces of the cage, and that are disengaged by the sliding of the sliding plate in conjunction with the pivoting of the bail. The bail and the sliding plate are formed integrally of folded sheet metal.
