A cancer cell proliferation inhibitor which comprises, as the active ingredient, a triterpene derivative represented by general formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. In general formula (I): R1 represents a carboxyl group or a hydroxymethyl group; and R2 represents a benzyl group optionally substituted by a hydroxymethyl group, a C1-6 alkyl group, a C2-6 alkenyl group or a C2-6 alkynyl group.
