Each of a plurality of unit cells (2), which constitute a battery (1), is provided with external terminals (7A, 7B) on the top edge. An upper cap (21) is fitted to the top edge of each unit cell (2). A lower cap (22) is fitted to the bottom edge of each unit cell (2). The plurality of unit cells (2) are sandwiched and held between an upper holding part (23) and a lower holding part (24), with the upper caps (21) and the lower caps (22) being interposed therebetween.
