Active material for the positive plates of an accumulator consists of a mixture of lead oxide and a saturated or unsaturated mono-carboxylic aliphatic acid containing from 4 to 16 carbon atoms and from 4 to 18 carbon atoms respectively, or a lead, sodium, or potassium salt of such acids. Examples of suitable materials are lead butyrate, heptoate, caprylate or nonanate, and lead 2-ethyl hexoate, and the corresponding acids, and lauric, myristic, palmitic, oleic and linoleic acids. Instead of mixing the materials with the lead oxide before pasting they may be applied in solution to the pasted lead oxide plate by brushing, spraying or dipping. |
