[Also in Group XXXI] Relates to a vehicle driving arrangement in which a pair of axles are separately driven by non-reversible sources of power, each axle being capable of being driven by one or other of the sources to effect reverse direction of travel (see Group XXXI). In the embodiment shown in Fig. 10 the axles are driven through fluid drives 16, 17 from a single prime mover (not shown). Each fluid drive shaft 20 rotatably carries gears 60, 43, the gears being capable of being clutched to the shaft by a slidable clutch sleeve 51. The gear 60 meshes with a gear 23 rotatably mounted on a shaft 25 which also rotatably carries a gear 29 which is connected through a gear 44 with the gear 43. The shaft 25 is connected through bevel gearing with the axle and can be connected through a slidable clutch sleeve 30 with either of the gears 23, 29. The gears 23, 29 on one shaft 25 mesh with similar gears on the other shaft 25, the arrangement being such as to provide a two speed drive for both forward and reverse drives. |
