The actuator has a push member with a needle whose proximal end is arranged close to a crosspiece and distal end is arranged close to a purge valve i.e. ball valve. The crosspiece is floatingly mounted across a rod (5) in a longitudinal slot so as to project to both sides of the rod when the rod reaches the end of its stroke, for allowing ends of the crosspiece to be supported against a plug (3) of a cylinder (1) to push the crosspiece relative to the needle such that the crosspiece pushes the needle, which pushes a ball of the valve to force the valve to open.
