701,643. Batteries. YARDENY INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. Dec. 6, 1950 [April 4, 1950], No. 29916/50. Class 53 An accumulator having a silver positive electrode is provided with a regenerated cellulose diaphragm between the positive and negative electrodes, and in order to prevent glycerine present as a plasticizer in the diaphragm from affecting the silver electrode a layer of a material inert to silver is placed between the electrode and the diaphragm. The layer may consist of blotting paper or of a regenerated, cellulose containing no glycerine. Fig. 4 shows a cell having a negative electrode 11 of powdered zinc oxide or zinc mixed with yellow oxide of mercury for amalgamation and enclosed in a paper wrapper 13. The electrode is enclosed between the limbs of a U-shaped positive electrode which is made by wrapping two spaced portions 12a, 12b, of the electrode in paper wrappers 14a, 14b and then folding both members in regenerated cellulose sheets 15 and bending the whole into U shape about a line separating the two portions of the electrode which are connected by conductors 17a, 17b. In a modification all the electrodes are flat and in both forms the electrodes are under pressure in the casing. The electrolyte is a solution of an alkali metal hydroxide containing zinc. Specifications 680,793, 682,164, 682,165, 2795/49 (as open to inspection under Sect. 91), 698,405, 701,641, 701,642, 701,644 and 701,678 are referred to. |
