<p>PURPOSE: Coating is provided to improve the wear resistance of a cutting tool by forming inner and outer layers on the cutting tool with a physical vapor deposition method. CONSTITUTION: Coating for improvement of wear resistance comprises an inner layer formed by physical vapor deposition and an outer layer formed on the inner layer by physical vapor deposition. The inner layer includes aluminum, one or more metal elements selected from the group of IVB, VB, and VIB group metal elements in the periodic table, and one or more nonmetal elements selected from the group consisting of IIIA, IVA, and VIA group nonmetal elements in the periodic table. The outer layer includes aluminum, silicon, one or more metal elements selected from the group of IVB, VB, and VIB group metal elements in the periodic table, and one or more nonmetal elements selected from the group consisting of IIIA, IVA, and VIA group nonmetal elements in the periodic table. In the outer layer, the amount of silicon decreases toward the inner layer.</p> |
