A fluid loss control agent composition, comprising a product resulting from a condensation reaction of finely ground quebracho with at least one organophilic species wherein at least one organophilic species comprises a reactive amine selected from the group of a primary or secondary C-C-amine and the weight ratio of quebracho to at least one organophilic species is from 50:50 to 95:5 is disclosed.
