Disclosed herein microcapsules which comprise a biologically active compound and processes for the preparation and for the use of such microcapsules. Particularly disclosed is a product comprising microcapsules which themselves comprise (a) a polymeric shell; and (b) a core which comprises an agrochemical which has a melting point above 25C characterised in that the agrochemical is dispersed as a solid in a hydrophobic material which has a melting point greater than or equal to 25C but which does not exhibit a glass transition temperature, and where the agrochemical has a water-solubility in the range of 0.1 to 100 g/l at 20°C, and is selected from the group consisting of insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, acaricides, rodenticides, molluscicides and plant growth regulators. A process for preparing said product is also disclosed, comprising the steps (i) melting the hydrophobic material to form a hydrophobic liquid; (ii) dispersing the agrochemical in the hydrophobic liquid; (iii) emulsifying the hydrophobic liquid into an aqueous phase; (iv) optionally cooling the resultant emulsion; (v) causing an interfacial polymerisation reaction to occur at the interface between the hydrophobic liquid and the aqueous phase to produce a capsule suspension; and (vi) optionally allowing or causing the capsule suspension to cool. |
