Disclosed are pharmaceutical compositions comprising: a slow release tapentadol (chemical name: 3-(3-Dimethylamino-1-ethyl-2-methyl-propyl)-phenol) and and a GABA analogue. Examples of the GABA analogue include pregabalin and gabapentin. The compositions are useful for treating pain, such as neuropathic pain, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, or back, musculoskeletal pain, ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, migraines, dental pain, abdominal pains, ischemic pain, post-operative pain or pain resulting from of an anaesthetic or surgery.
