A sliding door leaf (3) is retracted in an open position in a casing (4) that is emerged through a side opening. A movable member (12) is operated between a closed position in which the movable member closes the side opening of the casing and a retracted position in which the casing releases the side opening to allow the sliding door leaf to slide in the casing.
