<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device and an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing transfer failure of a toner image when the toner image formed on an image holder is transferred to a recording medium by use of a discharge electrode. <P>SOLUTION: When a transfer blade 64 moves to a pressing position, an image holder belt 16 is pressed to distort by the transfer blade 64, which produces a curved line state in a side view of a conveyance route of a sheet member P to be conveyed and allows changes in the conveyance direction of the sheet member P. Thereby, a force stretching the sheet member P in a width direction acts to stretch wrinkles produced in the sheet member P.
