<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device that reduces the capacity of data to be held in the image recording device, and a method of controlling the same. <P>SOLUTION: In this image recording device 1 for performing recording processing on a recording medium 60 by ejecting ink from a plurality of nozzles based on image data in a process of conveying the recording medium 60 by a transport mechanism 10, a density correction part 3 generates density characteristic information representing the relationship between a pixel position and optical density relating to a direction orthogonal to the transport direction by removing a high-frequency component in a range in which density irregularity can be viewed from a row of pixels for a predetermined gray level formed in the direction orthogonal to the transport direction. A relational expression of a pixel position, a gray level and optical density is generated from the generated density characteristic information, and the relationship between the gray level and the optical density.
