Provided are: a liquid composition that can form a coating film that secures colorless transparency and has superior weather resistance, and at the same time has sufficient ultraviolet ray absorption functionality and infrared ray absorption functionality; a method for producing the liquid composition; and a glass article having a coating film that secures colorless transparency and has superior weather resistance, and at the same time has sufficient ultraviolet ray absorption functionality and infrared ray absorption functionality. The liquid composition for forming a coating layer contains: an infrared ray absorption agent selected from tin-doped indium oxide, antimony-doped tin oxide, and a complex tungsten oxide; an ultraviolet ray absorption agent selected from a benzophenone compound, a triazine compound, and a benzotriazole compound; a dispersing agent having an acid value and/or an amine value; a binder component; and a liquid medium. The liquid composition contains the dispersing agent at a quantity such that the product of the sum (mgKOH/g) of the acid value and amine value of the dispersing agent and the mass ratio of the dispersing agent with respect to the infrared ray absorption agent is 2-30 (mgKOH/g).
