In a card punching or slotting machine in which the cards are each positioned so that holes therein may be placed in register with punches which are pre-set by means of keys 6 and actuated by means of a hand lever or other device, so as to open out certain of the holes to the edge of the card, each card 4 is positioned on a plate 2 by means of a pin 7 projecting through a hole or slot 8 therein and engaging a selected hole in the card. The pin is mounted on a leaf spring 9 secured at one end 10 to the underside of the plate 2 and provided at its other end with an actuating button 11. In a modification, Fig. 5, the pin, leaf spring, and actuating button are carried on an arm 12 slidably mounted between guides 13, 14, the arm having holes therein a selected one of which is engaged by a spring-loaded plunger 19 to lock the arm in position.
