The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an aqueous suspension of calcium carbonate by grinding in an aqueous medium and in the presence of an acrylic grinding agent and carbonate alkaline salts. Said salts enable the amount of grinding aid used to be reduced while maintaining an equivalent performance level in terms of the rheology and particle-size distribution of the suspensions. One of the novel features of said method is a first step of manufacturing the carbonate alkaline salt within the actual aqueous acrylic polymer solution by adding alkaline hydroxide and carbon-dioxide bubbling.
