Provided is a method for decoding images based on a prediction unit wherein an SDIP is applied.The method for decoding images according to the present invention includes a step for generating a chroma prediction mode candidate list by allocating an index, which corresponds to a code word, to the chroma prediction mode candidates and a step for deriving the chroma prediction mode of a current block by using chroma prediction mode index information transmitted from the generated chroma prediction mode candidate list and an encoding device. According to the present invention, the efficiency of encoding/decoding images is improved.
