<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for generating a projection image, capable of automatically making the adjustment so that the edge regions of three-dimensional image data can be always contained in the projection image, irrespective of a projection angle even if a subject has an area so large to occupy the three-dimensional image data. <P>SOLUTION: In generating a projection image from three-dimensional image data, the projection image is generated while reducing voxel intervals of the three-dimensional volume data forming the three-dimensional image data depending on the projection angle of the projection image, or the number of data points of the three-dimensional volume data forming the three-dimensional image data is increased to expand the three-dimensional volume data.
