Provided is a sliding component that has recessed parts that are effective in holding lubricating oil and securing abrasive powders, has superior abrasion resistance, and can suppress burning. The sliding component is provided with a pair of sliding surfaces with flat surfaces made to face each other and slide, and characterized by recessed parts formed in at least one of the sliding surfaces and a lipophilic substance being formed so as to cover the inside surfaces of these recessed parts. In addition, the lipophilic substance is an inorganic substance containing carbon atoms and is characterized by being formed from any of graphite, diamond-like carbon, and carbon nanotubes. In mechanical components that slide, lubricating oil can be maintained on the surface of the sliding components during sliding because of this constitution; therefore, friction loss can be reduced, and burning can be suppressed. |
