A pharmaceutical composition for alleviating aggravation of hepatoma, improving hepatic function, improving hepatic fibrosis, improving hepatic cirrhosis, improving hepatitis and promoting injured liver regeneration is provided by the present invention. The pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of procyanidin and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or salt, wherein the chemical formula of the procyanidin monomer is as follows. In the chemical formula, when R1 is OCH3, R2 is OH, R3 is H, or when R1 is OH, R2 is H, R3 is H, or when R1 is OH, R2 is OH, R3 is H, or when R1 is OH, R2 is OH, R3 is OH, and R4 is 3-(alpha)-OH, 3-(beta)-OH, 3-(alpha)-O-sugar or 3-(beta)-O-sugar.
