<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a link among devices differing in a group of characters. <P>SOLUTION: In modality, character information is added to the image data of a medical image as header information, and a DICOM image file is created (step S3). Next, first character information is extracted from the header information of the DICOM image file, and based on the first character information, pixel data for overlay is created (step S4). Then, second character information described by a group of characters that cannot be handled by an image server is deleted from the header information of the DICOM image file (step S5). Pixel data for overlay is written in the header information of the DICOM image file (step S6). The DICOM image file after edition is transmitted to the image server (step S7).
