PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform imaging for a planar image when a subject is suitable for the imaging for a planar image and perform imaging for a stereoscopic image when the subject is suitable for the imaging for a stereoscopic image.

SOLUTION: An imaging device has: a stereoscopic imaging unit 111 capturing a stereoscopic image formed by respective beams of object light incoming from two objective systems; a planar imaging unit 112 capturing a planar image formed by object light incoming from one objective system; an unevenness information extraction unit 114 performing predetermined image processing to an image formed by object light incoming from at least one objective system to extract unevenness information that indicates features of a subject in the image; and an image recording unit 116 recording the stereoscopic image captured by the stereoscopic imaging unit 111 in a storage unit 117 when the unevenness information satisfies a predetermined condition, and recording the planar image captured by the planar imaging unit 112 in the storage unit 117 when the unevenness information does not satisfy the predetermined condition.
