摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time for detecting a deficit in a nozzle, and to detect which nozzle has the deficit. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a head having a plurality of nozzle arrays comprising a plurality of nozzles; a light emitting part for applying laser light from a light emitting device to intersect with a discharging direction of a droplet discharged from each nozzle of the head; a light receiving part for receiving scattering light generated when the discharged droplet is irradiated with the laser light, and outputting a signal corresponding to the light amount of the scattering light; and a means for detecting droplet discharge for detecting the state of the droplet discharge of each nozzle based on the signal output from the light receiving part. The image forming apparatus applies the laser light so that the light axis is shifted from the center of two adjacent nozzle arrays, selects the two adjacent nozzles in the direction intersecting with the nozzle array direction as detection target nozzles from the head, and detects the state of the droplet discharge of each of the detection target nozzles based on the scattering light when the droplets are simultaneously discharged from the detection target nozzles. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
