METHOD FOR QUICKLY CHARACTERIZING AND QUANTIFYING THE CARBONATES OF A SOLID MATERIAL

The invention relates to a method for characterizing the various types of carbonates in all types of rocks. The rock is oxidized by gradually increasing the temperature thereof. Then, the quantity of CO2 emitted by the rock during the oxidation is determined, and a profile, which indicates a variation in the quantity of CO2 depending on the temperature, is derived therefrom. Then, the type of carbonate present in the rock is determined by comparing the profile with reference profiles, each reference profile corresponding to an identified type of carbonate. The quantity of the various types of carbonate can also be determined when the weight percentage of the reference rocks used to determine the reference profiles is known.
