A damping valve equipped with a piston, a damping passage, a piston rod, a bypass, and a relief valve. The bypass is equipped with a valve hole that extends in the axial direction of the piston rod, and side holes which open from the sides of the piston rod and lead to the valve hole. The relief valve is equipped with: an annular valve seat that is provided closer to the pressure-side chamber than the apertures of the side holes; a valve body that is inserted so as to be capable of sliding more toward the extension-side chamber than the annular valve seat, and that defines a back-pressure chamber within the valve hole; a biasing spring that biases the valve body toward the annular valve seat; and a constricting hole that connects the back-pressure chamber to the extension-side chamber. |
