The present invention provides silicon nanoparticles for diagnostic imaging that can be used in x-ray CT, fluorescent imaging, and the like and have high light emission intensity and also provides a method for manufacturing the same. A labeling agent for biosubstances that uses these silica nanoparticles for diagnostic imaging is also provided. These silica nanoparticles for diagnostic imaging encapsulate an organic fluorescent dye and a metal complex and are characterized by the ligands of this metal complex forming covalent bonds with the constituent polymer of these silica nanoparticles.
