<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that has high operation reliability and can obtain satisfactory results of multiple feed detection, even when a material to be recorded for example, preprint paper, on which material an image has already been printed, is used. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a unit 26 for stacking the material 6 to be recorded, the unit stacking the materials with the same sizes; units 32, 33 for conveying the material to be recorded; a multiple feed detection unit 30 for detecting that two or more of the materials 6 to be recorded are conveyed; and a multiple feed detection range changing unit 11 for changing a multiple feed detection range on the materials 6 to be recorded in the multiple feed detection unit 30.
