<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a state of an object with high accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: A state determination device comprises: a transmission section; a reception section; a calculation section; and a determination section. The transmission section emits ultrasonic waves to an object. The reception section faces the transmission section and includes a plurality of elements. Each element receives the ultrasonic waves to obtain a reception signal. The calculation section calculates the intensity of the reception signal for each of the elements of the reception section. The determination section determines whether the intensity is smaller than a prescribed value or not. The transmission section has a first part and a second part. The first part emits the ultrasonic waves in a first direction perpendicular to an opposite surface facing the reception section. When the transmission section is seen from a conveying direction of the object, the second part is provided along at least one end of the transmission section and emits the ultrasonic waves in a second direction at an angle with respect to the first direction.
