<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic device and method for a motor that can detect a failure of a motor coil in either case of driving of a vehicle or non-driving of the vehicle, and can cope with the failure of the motor. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a startup-time failure detection means 98 that detects when the vehicle is powered on but not being driven, the coil temperature of a motor coil and the coil resistance or the insulation resistance of the motor coil, and detects the failure of the motor coil, when the coil temperature exceeds a threshold, or when the coil resistance or insulation resistance exceeds a threshold. Further there is provided a driving-time failure detection means 99 that detects, when the vehicle is being driven, the coil temperature, the number of revolutions of the motor, the applied voltage of the motor, and the motor current, and detects a failure in the motor coil, when the coil temperature exceeds the threshold, or when the relationships between the applied voltage of the motor and the motor current in relation to the number of revolutions of the motor fall outside of a set range. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
