<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve both a fluid flow suitable for stratified charge combustion and a fluid flow suitable for homogeneous combustion in an in-cylinder injection internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 10 includes: a fuel injection valve 42 to inject fuel directly into a cylinder; and a piston 18 arranged in the cylinder so as to slide. The fuel injection valve 42 is located on the intake side, directed from the intake side to the exhaust side and arranged so as to inject the fuel in the direction of the central axis of the cylinder. A recessed part 70 formed on the top surface of the piston 18 has a curved shape in the predetermined direction so as to keep an intake tumble flow. At the recessed part of the piston, a protrusion part 72 having an intake side slope 72a and an exhaust side slope 72b is formed, wherein the intake side slope 72a rises from the recessed part 70 so as to change the course of the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve 42 to the direction toward an ignition plug 40. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
