<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus for performing multipass recording, and a control method of the image recording apparatus, where image quality deterioration can be effectively prevented, even when the positional deviation of nozzles occurs at the joint portion between short-length recording heads. <P>SOLUTION: In the image recording apparatus 100, a recording data control unit 51 determines allocation of pixels for each pass with reference to respective nozzles 73 of the short-length recording heads 71. When the positional deviation of the nozzles 73 occurs in the main-scanning direction at the joint portion between the short-length recording heads 71A and 71B, the recording data control unit 51 allocates the pixels from the prescribed pass with reference to the nozzles 73 of the short-length recording head 71B whose ink landing positions overlap those of the nozzles 73 of the short-length recording head 71A at the joint portion.
