A touch screen provided on a display surface of a display means is used as an inputting means so that a variety of actions of a microscope can be controlled with sufficient ease and precision. A variety of actions are controlled by an operator on the basis of a variety of finger-based gestures used on the touch screen provided on the display surface of the display means; e.g., making contact using a single finger ("tap"), making contact twice consecutively ("double-tap"), having a finger make contact and move without being lifted ("drag"), having a finger make prolonged contact for a predetermined period or longer ("touch-and-hold"), having two fingers make contact while being spread apart ("pinch-out") or brought together ("pinch-in"), and having two fingers make contact while being moved in parallel ("double-drag"). |
